The Whistleblower Law and Complaint Form
The Whistleblower provisions of Mississippi law are found at Section 25-9-171 of the Mississippi Code. The Attorney General is included in the definition of “State investigative body.”
Generally, an employee of State or local government is protected from adverse employment actions resulting from providing information to a State investigative body. Each State investigative body is required to develop and maintain a standard form for use by a whistleblower when reporting alleged improper government action. The form must require at a minimum the name, address and telephone number of the whistleblower and a description of the alleged improper governmental action. Upon receipt of a signed complaint, the State investigative body shall keep a record of the complaint and shall have authority to investigate the complaint.
