Mortgage Foreclosure Assistance

Mississippi Attorney General Jim Hood has created the Mississippi Foreclosure Prevention Consortium(MFPC) to assist homeowners who are struggling as a result of the foreclosure crisis. The consortium was created through funding awarded to the state under the recent National Mortgage Settlement. Attorney General Hood joined 49 other attorneys general and the United States Department of Justice in this settlement with the nation’s five largest mortgage servicing banks, including: Ally/GMAC, Bank of America, Citi, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo.

The Consortium was created through partnerships with non-profit and community action organizations to provide free legal counsel, advice, and representation, as well as free HUD-approved counseling and individual counseling to homeowners statewide. Partners include: Money Management International, Mississippi Home Corporation, Mississippi Center for Justice, Mississippi Center for Legal Services, and North Mississippi Rural Legal Services. Additionally, a partnership was entered into with the Mississippi Military Department to provide mortgage payment assistance to qualified veterans.
