Victims

The Office of the Attorney General is dedicated to protecting Mississippians through prevention efforts such as training and awareness presentations. These are available to the public upon request and specialized training is conducted routinely for law enforcement. We are equally dedicated to helping Mississippians who have already been victimized. Our Consumer Protection Division is dedicated to investigating and prosecuting cases involving Identity Theft and Home Repair Fraud, to name just a couple. The Mississippi Cyber Crime Fusion Center investigates, prosecutes and offers forensic analysis on cases involving internet crime. Our Domestic Violence Division is a "one-stop shop" resource for law enforcement, prosecutors, judges and all other individuals or entities having legal duties related to domestic violence victims or providing services to domestic violence victims within the State of Mississippi. The Victim Compensation Division is an important resource for hundreds of victims each year. The division assists victims by providing financial compensation for expenses associated with emotional and physical injury resulting from violent crime. Through the Victim Assistance Program (VAP) of the Attorney General's Office, victim advocates work with victims and their family members to help alleviate some of the frustration and confusion of the criminal justice process. We encourage Mississippians to contact us about the training/awareness programs they are most interested in and, in the unfortunate event that one finds themselves a victim, utilize the resources that lie within the agency. It is our pleasure to serve and protect you!
