Domestic Violence

The Attorney General’s Office is pleased to announce the creation of a Domestic Violence Division. The creation of the Division is made possible through a grant funded by the Office of Violence Against Women, United States Department of Justice, Grant Number 2006-WE-AX-0054. The Domestic Violence Division performs a myriad of functions in the area of domestic violence prevention, including:

  • law enforcement training on domestic violence laws, with special emphasis on those related to the enforcement of local and foreign orders of protection;
  • provide multi-disciplinary workshops with members of local law enforcement, prosecutors, judges and probation/parole officials in communities to ensure all participants understand the roles, duties and limitations of the other with regard to domestic violence cases;
  • assistance to prosecutors and law enforcement agencies with regard to ensuring their domestic violence policies comport with state and federal law, and with the Crime Victims’ Bill of Rights;
  • provide advocacy specifically for victims of domestic violence;
  • create a central repository for statewide statistics related to arrest, conviction, and/or sentencing of offenders; and
