Jackson, Miss. - Three Jackson women have been indicted by a Hinds County Grand Jury for crimes against a nursing home resident. Two have been arrested by Investigators with the Office of the Attorney General, Medicaid Fraud Division, while the third appears to be on the run from authorities, confirmed Attorney General Jim Hood today.
Arrested in the same case are Jamise James (28 years old), 630 Scott Street, Jackson, MS and Brittany Slaughter (22 years old), 338 Segura Avenue, Jackson, MS. James is charged with one count of conspiracy and four counts of fraudulent use of a social security number. Slaughter is charged with one count of conspiracy.
Attorney General Jim Hoods stated, “When our investigators went in the front door of place of employments of one of the defendants, Ashley Showers, she fled out the back door and escaped in a gray Dodge Durango.” Showers, also known as “Pig”, is described as being a black female, 25 years of age, 5’5” tall and 178 pounds. She lives at 5424 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS. She is wanted for one count of identity theft, one count of conspiracy and four counts of fraudulent use of a social security number. Showers is accused of stealing the social security card and driver license of a nursing home resident. Per the indictment, the women are accused of using the social security number of the victim, a local nursing home resident, to obtain a cellular telephone and a cellular telephone account from Alltel which accumulated $1,448.45 in charges, to also obtain a cellular telephone and account from Cingular Wireless which accumulated $1,480.54 in charges, to also obtain a cellular telephone and account from Nextel Wireless which accumulated charges of $93.35; to also obtain a credit card account with Target with charges totaling $1,201.21, to also obtain a credit card account with Walmart which accumulated $4,519.77 in charges and to also obtain a credit card account with Belk which accumulated $1,481.53 in charges.
Slaughter and James are scheduled to appear before Judge Winston Kidd in Hinds County First Judicial District Circuit Court at 9:30am on Wednesday, September 3, 2008. No bond has been issued yet. The women were taken to the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond.
As with all cases the charges are merely an accusation and the defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
