Jackson, MS–Attorney General Jim Hood confirmed today that his office is actively investigating the social networking site Facebook, along with Attorneys General nationwide. “As a father of a 12-year-old daughter, the dangers posed by sexual predators on social networking sites is a personal concern of mine,” said Attorney General Hood.

“While I and seven other Attorneys General remain in heated negotiations in an attempt to force MySpace to require parental email consent, we are now moving to the next fastest growing social networking site, Facebook. It poses the same dangers to our children in our homes as MySpace.”

Some areas of concern on Facebook are:
• It allows 13 year olds to “look for” inappropriate adult relationships
• It allows users to hide part or all of his/her birthday
• It opens the door for inappropriate contact between minors and adults by allowing adults access to minors
• It allows the posting of pictures with inappropriate content

“Although we have made some progress with MySpace, we will not stop until our children are safe from sexual predators in their own homes,” said Attorney General Hood.
