FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Jackson, MS- A former school teacher has been sentenced in a child porn case investigated and prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office, announced Attorney General Jim Hood today. Judge Robert Evans in Simpson County Circuit Court sentenced Rubin Renfrow, age 72, from Braxton, to 15 years behind bars, with 15 years to serve and he must register as a sex offender.

“The lengthy sentence imposed in this case reflects the judge’s intolerance for these types of despicable acts,” said Attorney General Jim Hood. “The court has made it very clear that anyone, especially a former school teacher, convicted of child sex crimes will be headed to prison for a very long time.”

Renfrow was found guilty, in a jury verdict, on March 27 after it was shown that he traded emails with persons from Russia and received images of child pornography. Renfrow taught school for 30 years in the Pearl and Jackson Public Schools. He was retired at the time he was caught.
